The School of Engineering at Stanford University is seeking applicants for an all-ranks faculty position in Smart Manufacturing. These technologies are reshaping product design, production, monitoring, and improvement, bridging the digital and physical realms. This shift enables new levels of automation, adaptability, and sustainability across manufacturing lifecycles, from unit processes to supply networks, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration. The search invites applications from individuals researching Smart Manufacturing, broadly defined to include advanced and additive manufacturing, in-situ sensing and closed-loop process control, AI-driven design and defect detection, digital twins, robotics and automation, cyber-physical production systems, industrialized construction, sustainable and circular manufacturing, and data-driven operations and supply chains. Research can be conducted within any engineering discipline. Successful candidates are expected to conduct world-class research with real-world impact (or demonstrate potential for it for junior candidates), be educational leaders in advanced manufacturing, and effectively communicate the role of advanced and smart technologies in shaping the future of manufacturing, including societal impacts.
