Open Rank Faculty Position, 12 month, Biomechanics
About The Position
The Department of Physical Therapy at High Point University is seeking a full-time, 12-month core faculty member specializing in biomechanics. This position is open to Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor ranks, depending on qualifications. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, developing a research program in human movement or related fields, mentoring students and collaborators, and utilizing the Human Biomechanics and Physiology Laboratory. The department fosters a collaborative environment across education, research, clinical practice, and community engagement, supported by advanced laboratory resources including motion capture, force platforms, and electromyography.
Requirements
- Earned DPT degree or masters/bachelors PT degree in combination with an academic doctorate in a related field.
- Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed scholarship appropriate to rank and a clearly articulated future research agenda.
- Experience teaching biomechanics, movement science, area of expertise, or related content in higher education.
- Experience with human-movement technologies such as motion capture, force platforms, electromyography, instrumented treadmills, wearable sensors, pressure systems, modeling, or advanced signal/data analysis.
- Evidence of effective student mentorship and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Strong communication, teaching, collaboration, organization, and project-management skills.
- Commitment to rigorous, reproducible, ethical research; laboratory safety; data stewardship; and effective mentorship.
- Values teamwork, accountability, growth, respect, humility, and collegiality.
Nice To Haves
- Terminal academic doctorate.
- Experience in health-professions or DPT education.
- Evidence of external grant activity, industry collaboration, or a credible plan to develop externally supported scholarship (expectations commensurate with rank).
- Physical therapist licensure or eligibility for licensure in North Carolina.
Responsibilities
- Deliver the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) curriculum.
- Produce new research.
- Provide service to the Department, School, and University, including advising, admissions interviews, and committee service.
- Provide primary or shared instruction in biomechanics, area of expertise, or related content.
- Advise and mentor DPT students.
- Contribute to team-taught courses, student research, and independent learning experiences.
- Establish or extend an active research program in human movement, rehabilitation, sports medicine, injury prevention, performance, or a related field.
- Publish peer-reviewed scholarship and present at professional meetings.
- Pursue external funding and strategic partnerships.
- Engage in student and faculty research and foster collaborations.
- Support the effective and sustainable use of biomechanics laboratory technology.
- Contribute to the mission, vision, goals, and continuous-improvement activities of the Department, School, and University.
- Participate in faculty governance, admissions and recruitment activities, committee service, and program assessment.
- Support program compliance, accurate documentation, and accreditation-related responsibilities.
- Engage students in meaningful educational, research, clinical, and community experiences.
