About The Position

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry invites applications for a full-time, open rank faculty member in Operative, Cariology and Biomaterials Dentistry, Department of Restorative Sciences. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assuring safe and effective delivery of patient care, providing didactic and clinical education, course and curriculum leadership, summative and formative student assessment and leading small group seminars. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in teaching at the pre-doctoral and graduate levels; collaborate with pre-doctoral and graduate program directors on the creative design and implementation of ongoing interactive curriculum; participate in duties consistent with school and university requirements for performance and scholarship; and participate in the UNC Adams School of Dentistry Dental Faculty Practice. The position also offers continuing education and professional service.

Responsibilities

  • Teach predoctoral and/or graduate courses in operative dentistry, cariology, preventive dentistry, and dental biomaterial
  • Supervise and mentor students and residents in clinical operative dentistry and general dentistry
  • Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and continuous quality improvement
  • Integrate contemporary concepts such as minimally invasive dentistry, caries risk assessment, and biomaterials science into teaching
  • Mentor students, residents, and junior faculty as appropriate to rank
  • Provide patient care in operative, esthetic dentistry and general dentistry consistent with institutional standards
  • Supervise clinical care in student and resident clinics
  • Promote evidence-based, patient-centered, and preventive approaches to oral health care
  • Participate and lead scholarly activity in cariology, dental materials, restorative dentistry, or related fields
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international meetings
  • Pursue extramural research funding, as appropriate to rank and track when applicable
  • Collaborate within the institution and across disciplines (e.g., materials science, biomedical engineering, public health)
  • Participate in departmental, school, and university service activities
  • Contribute to professional organizations at the local, national, or international level
  • Support accreditation, faculty governance, and institutional initiatives
