About The Position

This open-rank faculty position at the Adams School of Dentistry, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is responsible for developing, implementing, and growing a cutting-edge, independent, yet collaborative, research program focused on biomedical science, cariology, microbiology, or associated fields. The role involves mentoring students, residents, faculty, and staff, and collaborating with the Office of Academic Affairs to deliver educational content within the faculty member’s area of expertise to dental students. The successful candidate will also engage with other campus units to support education and training, and work with local, regional, national, and international research and education programs. The position reports to the Chair of the identified department, depending on specialty, and will collaborate closely with the Office of Research, Discovery and Innovation.

Requirements

  • Development, implementation, and/or growth of a cutting edge, independent, yet collaborative, research program focused on biomedical science, cariology, microbiology or associated fields.
  • Mentoring students, residents, faculty and staff.
  • Engage with the Office of Academic Affairs to develop, implement and/or deliver content within the faculty member’s realm of expertise to Adams School of Dentistry students.
  • Collaborate with other units on campus to support education and training within the faculty member’s area of expertise.
  • Report to the Chair of the identified department, dependent on specialty.
  • Collaborate closely with the Office of Research, Discovery and Innovation to support the school’s programs and initiatives.
  • Work with local/regional/national/international research and education programs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, direct, and lead teams in a cutting-edge independent, yet collaborative, research program.
  • Seek and acquire extramural funding to support a robust research program.
  • Supervise Adams School of Dentistry students in research, discovery, and innovation as applicable.
  • Work with the Chair of (Identified Department) in the delivery of education focused on their field of expertise.
  • Serve on committees and boards within and outside the UNC Adams School of Dentistry, including thesis and dissertation committees.
  • Serve on local and, as appropriate, national and international committees for state/federal government agencies and professional societies.
  • Represent the School to internal and external constituencies as appropriate.
