About The Position

The David S. Congdon School of Entrepreneurship (CSE) at High Point University is seeking a new colleague to lead the Entrepreneurship program as Chair and Faculty member. The successful candidate will join High Point University’s CSE leadership team, have substantial industry/entrepreneurial experience (at least 10 years) through entrepreneurial venture development, teaching, practice, or business ownership experience. They will also bring the leadership skills necessary to manage departmental operations and support academic excellence. A master’s degree in Entrepreneurship, Business, or other relevant major is required, and a PhD in Entrepreneurship or Business is preferred. At HPU, teaching and student engagement are paramount. The Chair is expected to teach at a reduced load with an emphasis on application, industry engagement, and experiential learning. Based on research and/or specialty areas, there may be opportunities for curricular development in those specialties. As the Entrepreneurship Department Chair, the candidate is also responsible for: strategic planning and initiatives development; faculty leadership and oversight (staffing, scheduling, supervision, mentoring, etc.); development and oversight of some entrepreneurial events; and student engagement.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in Entrepreneurship, Business, or other relevant major is required.
  • At least 10 years of professional entrepreneurial experience or equivalent experience in business start-ups.

  • Organized with the ability to work independently and operate efficiently within a team environment.
  • A commitment to quality teaching, professional growth, and university service.

Nice To Haves

  • A PhD in Entrepreneurship or Business is preferred.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with university-level teaching and experience in academic administration or leadership roles.

Responsibilities

  • Represent and advance the mission and values of High Point University and the David S. Congdon School of Entrepreneurship.
  • Collaborate with the Dean, CSE Leadership Team, and campus partners on strategic initiatives, curriculum design, and delivery.
  • Teach entrepreneurship and related disciplines as assigned; develop and deliver curriculum aligned with current entrepreneurial business practices and experiential learning.
  • Advise and mentor students on academic progress, venture development, and career pathways.
  • Maintain active engagement with the entrepreneurial community to strengthen instructional relevance and expand student opportunities.
  • Manage and support student entrepreneurship programming, including internal and external competitions, showcases, and alumni engagement, as well as administration of internal donor-related grant funding.
  • Participate in university recruitment, promotional efforts, and retention activities to support enrollment and engagement of prospective and current students.
  • Provide administrative leadership for the Entrepreneurship Department, including strategic planning, program development, and operational oversight.
  • Manage course scheduling, faculty workload assignments, staffing needs, resource allocation, and fiscal planning.
  • Conduct faculty evaluations and support professional development.
  • Support accreditation and continuous improvement by participating in annual assessment activities, including the coordination of required documentation and reporting.
  • Collect, analyze, and report program data for performance metrics and donor-grant reporting to ensure effectiveness and accountability.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the department, the David S. Congdon School of Entrepreneurship, and other university units; facilitate effective communication among faculty, staff, students, and administration.
  • Represent and advocate for the program, school, and university at internal and external events, including recruitment activities.
  • Maintain active professional development.
  • Serve on department, school, university, and relevant community/professional/governmental committees.
  • Support institutional initiatives related to student success, academic quality, and community engagement.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with industry, alumni, and community organizations to enhance program visibility and student opportunities.
