The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) invites applications for the Tom Miller Endowed Professorship in Fisheries Science and Ecology at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory (CBL). This is a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, depending on qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will receive research support through the endowment associated with this professorship. This is a full time 100% FTE position with 75% guaranteed state funding support for salary while the remaining 25% of salary to be externally funded. We seek an innovative and collaborative scientist whose research advances fisheries science and ecology, particularly in marine, coastal, and estuarine systems. The successful candidate will develop a nationally recognized, externally funded research program that integrates ecological processes with fisheries science and supports sustainable management of living aquatic resources. The position honors the legacy of Dr. Tom Miller, whose work exemplified the integration of quantitative fisheries science, ecosystem ecology, and applied resource management. CBL has a long-standing tradition of impactful engagement with fisheries management agencies. The position offers meaningful opportunities to bridge science and policy in support of sustainable fisheries.The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with the Potomac River Fisheries Commission (PRFC), Maryland Department of Natural Resources, and other state and regional fisheries management agencies. A CBL faculty member serves as a science advisor to the PRFC, and we welcome candidates interested in continuing this strong partnership between CBL and regional management bodies.
