The primary role of the Open Gym supervisor is to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for Spokane Schools students to participate in basketball and gym activities. Open Gyms will run at designated schools throughout SPS. A mandatory training for all supervisors will be scheduled.
Requirements
- Experience in education, coaching, youth development, or a related field
- Demonstrated ability to safely supervise students of varying ages during physical activity
- Flexibility and adaptability to modify supervision approaches as needed
- Current or pending First Aid/CPR certification, or willingness to obtain certification
- Effective communication skills via email, text, and phone
- Physical ability to lift, carry, or push up to 50 pounds
Responsibilities
- Supervise Open Gym participants during scheduled hours
- Verify participant registration and take attendance at each session.
- Maintain and manage provided gym equipment throughout the program
- Ensure participants follow safety procedures in all gym spaces.
- Communicate clearly, professionally, and positively with participants, families, and SPS staff using both written and verbal methods
