About The Position

The risk manager will maintain positive working relationships with project teams, subcontractors, and peer safety professionals. This individual will integrate and drive the concept of Safety, Quality, Production (SQP) into the company's culture to ensure its success. The risk manager will exemplify the Speak Up, Listen Up, Recognize It cultural movement in daily assigned duties and coach on-site risk representatives and field leadership on delivering highly effective Excellence Huddles, Stand-Down meetings, safety training, and project/new hire orientations.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Construction or a similar field with a minimum of five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of training and related experience (experience may be accepted in lieu of a college degree).
  • 24-hour New Miner Training required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures is essential.
  • Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of people.
  • Strong teamwork orientation.
  • Positive attitude and professional customer service skills.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Valid certification through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, or a similar certification.
  • Experience with construction management software.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and application of contract language and insurance lines of coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with company and project site safety policies, procedures, and expectations; takes corrective actions and educates team members when necessary.
  • Ensures uniform and consistent interpretation and enforcement of safety expectations.
  • Documents safety audits regularly on all assigned project sites, providing positive observations as well as opportunities for improvement through photographs, video, and written documentation.
  • Investigates all incidents and potential loss claims and provides documentation to the director, claims management or appointed designee.
  • Prepares appropriate incident investigation reports and helps manage employee return-to-work policies.
  • Acts as a resource for assigned project teams, assisting with pre-planning and site-specific safety plans and procedures.
  • Addresses safety performance concerns with company and subcontractor site leadership.
  • Independently problem-solves and creates resolutions to safety-related issues.
  • Actively supports and contributes to department goals and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Mentors and supports fellow members of the risk management team, including risk managers, on-site risk representatives, risk administrators, and risk interns.
  • Assists in scheduling, coordinating, and completing/following up on field and office staff substance abuse testing per the company's and/or union's trade program.
  • Coaches on-site risk representatives and field leadership teams on principles of risk management, including delivering Excellence Huddles, Stand-Down meetings, safety training, and orientations.
  • Identifies, develops, and conducts training sessions to address safety or risk management needs on project sites.
  • Identifies and acknowledges outstanding safety performance.
  • Maintains an active role on safety and/or professional construction organizations and committees.
  • Serves as a technical resource to all members of the Risk Management department and project site personnel.
  • Participates in corporate initiatives and committees outside of the Risk Management department.
  • Assists in the delivery of safety communications, presentations, and training, such as OSHA 30-Hour courses, Craftspeople Appreciation Events, Corporate Summits, MORE meetings, etc.
