About The Position

WGU is seeking passionate individuals committed to expanding access to higher education through online, competency-based degree programs. As an Onsite Instructor, Prelicensure Clinical, you will be a subject matter expert responsible for teaching and mentoring students during their experiential clinical coursework in a remote/onsite environment. This faculty position involves varied instructional methods based on student and facility needs, focusing on supporting an assigned group of students and providing specialized instruction in challenging clinical coursework. You will interact with students in both group and one-on-one settings, ensuring their success in clinical placements by overseeing their learning experiences. The role requires a high level of commitment, effectiveness, and consistency, serving as a professional role model in communication, ethical comportment, and problem-solving. You will maintain current knowledge in your field, foster student learning through innovative teaching practices, and respond with urgency to student needs, communicating professionally and respectfully. Appropriate student referrals for remediation, communication with student coaches/preceptors, and final approval of clinical time are key responsibilities. Proactive support, utilization of technology-based platforms, electronic clinical student evaluation, and collaboration with university professionals to maintain a student-obsessed atmosphere are also essential. The role demands adaptability to changing requirements, priorities, and deadlines, along with maintaining a working knowledge of relevant state regulations.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in nursing; Education is verified.
  • Two years minimum Nursing experience.
  • Work history demonstrating continuous advancement and success in roles requiring creative problem solving and collaboration.
  • Unencumbered RN license.
  • Active, unencumbered license in designated state.
  • State and federal legislative requirements and college accreditation requirements may apply to maintain the necessary credentialing for this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate, or terminal degree in a specific content area.
  • Strong experience with distance education and distance learning students is preferred.
  • Terminal degree and all applicable licenses or certifications.
  • Prior experience in clinical teaching/nursing education.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a steward for carrying out WGU’s mission and strategic vision.

  • Respond with urgency to meet student needs and communicate professionally and respectfully with students and all other members of the WGU community.
  • Make appropriate student referrals for remediation or other needs, utilizing WGU policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with the student's assigned coach/preceptor as needed to discuss student progress and concerns.
  • Provide final review and approval for student's clinical time.
  • Offer proactive support and outreach to assigned students.
  • Use technology-based teaching and communication platforms to aid students in the development of competencies.
  • Submit electronic clinical student evaluation form(s) after completion of clinical intensive.
  • Collaborate with other professionals within the university to promote a positive, student-obsessed atmosphere.
  • Respond with urgency to changing requirements, priorities, and short deadlines.
  • Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of relevant state regulations.
  • Conduct both in-person and/remote methods of student evaluation.
  • Support the Health Placement Team to secure clinical partnerships.
