About The Position

ECPI University is seeking a Software Development Faculty Member with deep expertise in AI-augmented development practices to serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME). The role leads integration of AI tools, responsible development principles, and modern software engineering practices across the undergraduate software development curriculum. It focuses on preparing students who are new to coding to work productively and ethically alongside AI systems from the start of their careers. The faculty member designs and teaches curriculum on AI-assisted coding, LLM-based application development, prompt engineering, AI-augmented architecture and design thinking, and responsible AI practices. They model professional AI-augmented workflows, incorporate secure coding principles, mentor faculty colleagues, collaborate with academic leadership, and stay current with developments in generative AI and software engineering tools.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field, or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the discipline.
  • Demonstrated hands-on expertise in AI-augmented software development, such as AI-assisted coding workflows, LLM API development, prompt engineering, or agentic development tools.
  • 3–5 years of relevant industry experience, with direct exposure to AI-integrated development environments.
  • Experience designing or delivering curriculum, training, or professional development for beginner-to-intermediate learners.
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted coding tools and workflows such as GitHub Copilot, Kilo Code, Cursor, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of LLM concepts and application development using LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of prompt engineering principles and patterns for software development contexts.
  • Knowledge of core software development fundamentals, including OOP, data structures, version control, and debugging.
  • Secure coding awareness, including OWASP Top 10, CWE, and AI-introduced vulnerability patterns.
  • Deep expertise in AI-augmented development and ability to scaffold complex concepts for students encountering programming for the first time.
  • Strong curriculum development skills, including mapping AI competencies to industry frameworks such as the NICE Workforce Framework and ACM/IEEE Computing Curricula.
  • Ability to model professional-grade AI workflows accessibly for novice learners.
  • Commitment to responsible AI development and the ability to teach both the potential and ethical responsibilities of AI-assisted software creation.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Passion for innovation, instructional excellence, and preparing students for the AI-augmented workforce.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D., particularly with research or applied focus in AI, software engineering, or human-computer interaction.
  • 10 or more years of relevant industry experience preferred.
  • Teaching or mentoring experience, particularly with students new to programming.
  • Experience with agentic AI frameworks such as LangChain, AutoGen, or equivalent.
  • Experience with cloud AI/ML development services such as AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, or Google Vertex AI.
  • Knowledge of AI ethics frameworks and responsible development practices.
  • Full-stack web development experience with AI integration.
  • Knowledge of AI-augmented architecture and design thinking methodologies.
  • GitHub Copilot or GitHub Foundations certification.
  • AWS Certified Developer or Azure Developer Associate certification.
  • Azure AI Engineer or AWS ML Specialty certification.
  • Google Professional ML Engineer certification.
  • Recognized LLM or generative AI development credential.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or SAFe Agile practitioner.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as institutional SME for AI-augmented software development and guide curriculum design across the undergraduate software development program.
  • Design, develop, and refine curriculum on AI-assisted coding, LLM-based application development, prompt engineering, AI-augmented architecture and design thinking, and responsible and ethical AI development.
  • Teach courses at the intersection of software development and artificial intelligence using real-world tools, scaffolded projects, and industry-aligned case studies accessible to students with no prior coding experience.
  • Model professional AI-augmented development workflows, including AI coding assistants, LLM API integration, and prompt-driven design and documentation practices.
  • Incorporate secure coding principles, including OWASP Top 10 and CWE, into instruction and help students understand how AI tools can introduce or mitigate software vulnerabilities.
  • Mentor faculty colleagues in adopting AI-augmented teaching strategies and tools across software development courses.
  • Collaborate with academic leadership to ensure the curriculum reflects current industry expectations for AI-literate software developers.
  • Stay current with generative AI, agentic coding tools, LLM frameworks, and their evolving roles in professional software development.
