The University of Pittsburgh School of Law invites applications for an adjunct faculty position teaching LAW 5719 – Applied Legal Analytics, a 3-credit course in the Spring 2027 semester. The course provides a hands-on practical introduction to artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing as applied to the work of legal professionals, researchers, and administrators. The course examines how AI and Law researchers use natural language processing and machine learning to extract semantic information from legal documents and address legal problems, as well as how LegalTech companies apply large-scale document analysis and predictive analytics. Students develop literacy with these technologies and learn to apply them to legal problems they have studied or may encounter in practice. They gain practical experience using the tools through close mentorship and project-based collaboration with computer science students. Lecture sessions alternate with working sessions in which instructors assist project groups.
