One-Way Operations Management Intern

About The Position

Werner Enterprises’ 11-week summer internship provides an opportunity to apply classroom learning in a real-world setting. The internship is based at the company’s Corporate Headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, with some remote and off-site opportunities potentially available. It includes dedicated job training and learning opportunities in a collaborative, inclusive work environment. Paid housing or housing assistance may be available. The intern learns to manage and support a fleet of professional drivers, coordinate logistics and supply chain workflows, collaborate with load planners and account management teams, and monitor operational metrics. A major, time-intensive part of the internship is developing and presenting a Summer Project Proposal that addresses a key business need.

Requirements

Currently pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal relationship-building skills.
Eagerness to learn logistics and supply chain management.

Responsibilities

Learn how to manage and support a fleet of professional drivers to maximize productivity, safety, and operational efficiency while ensuring top-tier customer service.
Learn the aspects of logistics and supply chain management, including overseeing driver assignments from start to finish and managing in-transit progress and service workflows.
Work directly with load planners and account management teams to analyze and determine transportation solutions using internal platforms and tools to maximize freight efficiency and minimize dwell time.
Track operational metrics such as driver production, deadhead, and retention.
Develop and present a Summer Project Proposal addressing a key business need.
