About The Position

The One-on-One Aide supports a child in the classroom by building a positive, trusting relationship and helping the child fully participate in daily learning activities. Working under the direction of the Lead Teacher, this position provides individualized support to meet the child’s developmental, social, and behavioral needs. This role is well suited for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in early childhood education, behavioral support, and inclusive classroom practices. The One-on-One Aide is responsible for implementing individualized learning and behavioral strategies to support the child’s participation and progress in the classroom, in accordance with program standards and under the supervision of the Lead Teacher. This position requires professional judgment and conduct, including maintaining appropriate boundaries, supporting a respectful environment, and communicating effectively with children, families, and staff. The One-on-One Aide is also responsible for safeguarding confidential information and completing required documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to meet all Washington State Child Care Licensing (DCYF) requirements, including but not limited to successful completion of a background check, health screening requirements, and required staff qualifications
  • Current or ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification (infant, child, and adult) within required timelines
  • Current or ability to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card within required timelines
  • Current enrollment in the MERIT (Managed Education and Registry Information Tool) system or ability to enroll within required timeframe
  • Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions and implement direction in a classroom setting
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of child and family information in accordance with state regulations and organizational policies
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain professional boundaries when working with children, families, and staff
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment in compliance with licensing standards

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with young children in a childcare, preschool, or educational setting
  • Experience supporting children with developmental, behavioral, or social-emotional needs
  • Familiarity with Washington State Early Achievers standards or similar quality rating systems
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the health and safety of all Tomorrow’s Hope children.
  • Maintain effective communication with leadership and parents.
  • Support the child’s development in age-appropriate skills, including toileting, language, self-help, self-regulation, and social interaction.
  • Implement daily routines, transitions, and activities appropriate to the child’s developmental level.
  • Provide behavioral support and redirection as needed.
  • Maintain and reinforce predictable routines to support the child’s participation.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
  • Support the planning and implementation of curriculum aligned with the child’s individual developmental needs.
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff on child progress and classroom activities.
  • Support the child’s participation in individual, small group, and large group settings.
  • Follow all Housing Hope and Tomorrow’s Hope policies, procedures, and program standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality of child and family information in accordance with policy and applicable laws.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to support program goals and positive classroom outcomes.
  • Participate in required trainings and apply learned skills to job performance.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, including appropriate conduct, reliability, and openness to feedback.
  • Seek guidance as needed and incorporate supervisory feedback to improve performance.
  • Maintain a positive, composed, and supportive demeanor with children and families.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support a safe, clean, and healthy environment.
