Under general supervision of the office supervisor and medical staff, this role follows established policies and procedures to gather and record all necessary information to assist with financially clearing a hospital or TGMG procedure or service. The specialist is responsible for obtaining and verifying patient demographics, confidential clinical and financial information necessary to accurately and efficiently schedule patient visits, surgery, and other hospital procedures. This role also assists with patient check-ins, insurance notifications and authorizations for oncology scheduled hospital and TGMG services to support claim processing and reimbursement. Additionally, the specialist makes follow-up calls post-surgery and appointments to patients and answers all staff messages. The role requires recognizing and adhering to all CMS, JCAHO, and HIPAA requirements when validating the hospital account. The specialist works directly with nurses, medical staff, ancillary departments, insurance carriers, care management/utilization, HIMS, scheduling, and other external professionals to assist patients with obtaining health care and financial services. The role is responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.
