About The Position

Shenandoah Oncology is seeking a compassionate and team-oriented Oncology RN to join our dynamic clinical team. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
  • Current RN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • BLS certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Oncology experience preferred but not required. Will consider entry, mid, or senior level candidates with strong clinical skills and a patient-centered mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements, evaluates, and coordinates patient care in alignment with clinical standards and individualized patient needs.
  • Assesses patient or family needs, provides education, and manages medication refill requests.
  • Administers therapies (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hematologic agents), using correct medication, dose, route, timing, and technique as directed.
  • Facilitates dose modifications through patient and lab assessments, referencing protocols, and collaborating with providers.
  • Performs venipuncture, port access, and maintenance of central venous catheters.
  • Coordinates patient care by ordering follow-ups, referrals, diagnostics, and procedures.
  • Assures pre-authorizations and consent forms are obtained before therapy initiation, when applicable.
  • Recognizes and addresses the physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of oncology care.
  • Participates in nurse triage, including in-person assessments, phone calls, and coordination of care for patients presenting with symptoms, treatment side effects, or other concerns.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of all care and services provided.
  • Follows OSHA and practice-specific safety protocols, including safe handling of cytotoxic agents and biohazards.
  • Participates in company-wide quality initiatives and supports patient safety practices.
  • Collaborates with clinical research staff to support protocol adherence, patient participation, and investigational drug administration.
  • Maintains current oncology nursing knowledge through ongoing professional development.
  • Provides guidance and support to LPNs, LVNs, and medical assistants in the delivery of patient care.
  • Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
