The Oncology Infusion Nurse will work in the Cancer Treatment Center. Depending on the nurse’s credentials and competence, the position may be assigned to the infusion room or the lab. In the infusion room, the nurse administers blood products, antineoplastics, and supportive therapies. The role requires an RN because most medications are administered intravenously. Placement in the infusion room requires outpatient oncology infusion experience and an ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy card; otherwise, the nurse would work in the lab. Lab duties include drawing labs from subcutaneous portacaths, removing home infusion pumps, and performing central line dressing changes. Available schedules are 8:00–4:30, 8:30–5:00, or 7:00–3:30, depending on assignment.
