About The Position

The Waste Specialist is responsible for the safe and compliant management of chemical waste, with a primary focus on controlling chemical pour-off processes. This role requires a strong understanding of proper chemical handling techniques, strict adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work with a variety of hazardous materials in a regulated environment.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in chemical handling, waste management, or a related field preferred
  • Working knowledge of hazardous materials handling and disposal practices
  • Ability to read and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Bilingual a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and willingness to share with team
  • Knowledge of the upkeep and care of cleaning equipment
  • Knowledge of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working in environments with chemical exposure (with proper PPE)
  • Ability to wear respirators or other protective equipment as required
  • Safety-focused mindset

  • Effective communication and teamwork
  • Ability to follow strict protocols and documentation standards

  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification a plus
  • Forklift certified a plus

Responsibilities

  • Execute chemical pour-off activities in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Safely handle, transfer, and dispose of chemical waste, ensuring proper segregation and labeling
  • Provide training to SBM's EEs to ensure their familiarity with the chemical pour-off process and ability to work independently
  • Maintain full compliance with all site safety policies, OSHA standards, and environmental regulations
  • Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times during waste handling operations
  • Monitor and control waste streams to prevent contamination, spills, or exposure risks
  • Perform routine inspections of containers, storage areas, and equipment to ensure safe operating conditions
  • Accurately document waste handling activities, including logs, manifests, and incident reports
  • Respond to spills or emergencies in accordance with site response procedures
  • Collaborate with site personnel to ensure proper waste collection and disposal practices
