About The Position

The Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC) is a licensed day care facility that provides supplemental support for clients of Parent Care Family Recovery Services. It serves mothers with substance use disorders and other mental health issues, ensuring their children are safe while they work towards sobriety and practice parenting skills. The Teacher position is responsible for providing high-quality, effective developmental and educational consulting services to children and their parents, with general supervision. The Teacher also provides support to the program's Teacher Aids and volunteer staff as needed. The childcare environment is subject to frequent interruptions. This role requires the ability to stand and walk frequently, and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Physical assistance with children's mobility and care needs is required. Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions may occur, and any field work may require driving. The position utilizes relevant educational and teaching materials, with limited use of computers and office equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Requirements

  • 12 units in early childhood development, child development, education, counseling or related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience with preschool or early intervention program required.
  • Must be able to move quickly, bend, reach, push, pull, and lift up to 40lbs. unassisted.
  • Must offer certain linguistic, gender, cultural and ethnic specific skills: must be able to work with culturally diverse population.
  • Must be free of parole and probation for a period of 3 years as specified by program contract.
  • Must have a valid California driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a background check, TB, drug screen, and MMR vaccine requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in early childhood is preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • California Commission on Teacher Credentialing permit preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Providing high quality effective developmental and educational consulting services to children and their parents.
  • Supporting the program’s Teacher Aids and volunteer staffs as needed.
  • Physically assisting children with mobility issues and care needs.
  • Driving for any field work portion of the job.
