About The Position

On-Call Museum Associates work in Visitor Services and the Museum Store, interacting with visitors in a welcoming environment. They are crucial to ensuring visitors have an engaging and positive experience. The most important qualification is a desire to help people have great experiences, whether they are visitors or fellow staff members. This is a year-round, on-call position without guaranteed hours, not to exceed 30 hours per week. Associates will be offered shifts on an "as-needed" basis, with high need dates discussed and assigned in advance. Once scheduled, shifts are mandatory. Unplanned opportunities for additional shifts may arise with minimal notice, and these will be requests subject to the associate's availability and interest.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to use standard workplace technology, including Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel), shared calendars, email, cloud-based file storage, and collaboration tools (e.g., Teams).
  • Ability to follow documented procedures, maintain accurate digital records, and quickly learn and reliably use museum systems.
  • Available for a flexible schedule, including possible weekend shifts.
  • Comfortable with fluctuating earnings tied to hours worked.
  • Personable with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work confidently, courteously, and efficiently in a busy environment.
  • Comfortable using a variety of technology systems and willing to help visitors engage with digital technology (Mobile App).
  • Enjoys interacting with customers and making recommendations.
  • Desire to help people have great experiences.
  • Interest in visual arts with a curiosity to learn about Norman Rockwell and Illustration art.

  • Spanish speaking ability and/or any foreign language ability.

Responsibilities

  • Greet visitors, provide orientation and recommendations for campus experiences.
  • Promote Studio and Gallery Tours and other programming, complete ticket sales via POS and reservation systems.
  • Answer phones, direct calls, and assist guests with online bookings over the phone.
  • Perform opening and closing duties as assigned.
  • Assist customers with purchases in the Museum Store and be familiar with merchandise.
  • Replenish inventory, stock, and display merchandise attractively.
  • Assist with stocking and display in the Café.
  • May assist the primary server in the café as a cashier or runner, adhering to health and safety practices.
  • Explain Membership benefits to new visitors.
  • Assist with museum events and special experiences.
  • Support overall museum operations, mission, and safety policies to ensure the safety of collections, staff, and facility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
