About The Position

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking an On-Call Laboratory Technician to join the team in San Diego, CA. This position supports a flexible schedule that will work around existing class schedules. Hours per week may vary based on laboratory capacity. The role involves performing basic laboratory tasks, microbiological and molecular biology techniques, and ensuring adherence to company safety and quality standards. Essential job functions are to be completed on an on-call basis.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 0-2 years of related experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required.

Nice To Haves

  • AA or BS in a related field preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in basic molecular techniques (e.g. DNA extraction and PCR) preferred
  • Proficiency in other software (e.g. statistical packages, graphing programs) and/or coding (e.g. Python, R) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic laboratory tasks including media preparation, glassware cleaning, supply stocking, inventory and ordering, maintenance of equipment, update of associated logs, shipping and receiving.
  • Performs microbiological and molecular biology techniques.
  • Primary techniques will include membrane filtration, with supplementary DNA extraction, and analysis by PCR (including droplet digital PCR) as needed.
  • Reviews laboratory QA manuals, SOPs, journal articles, or other applicable literature for information applicable to experiments.
  • Confers with management regarding assignments and schedule and manages/prioritizes tasks to meet assigned due dates.
  • Compiles and manages analytical data and performs preliminary analysis and technical review of results.
  • Assures all procedures and processing areas are maintained in a clean and organized manner.
  • Adheres to company safety and quality standards at all times.
  • May provide training to other technicians in basic techniques, at management’s discretion.
  • May perform environmental sample collection (training will be provided).
  • May prepare written technical documents with senior oversight.
  • May intermittently perform work after-hours and weekends to receive and process environmental samples within holding times.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
