About The Position

This is a newly created role within a growing Facilities Department, focused on supporting the museum's three sites. The OSP Manager will oversee daily operations and cross-functional park usage at the Olympic Sculpture Park, including operational planning, activity coordination, and managing artistic and horticultural aspects. This high-visibility position collaborates with other SAM departments on art installation, conservation, internal programs, and private events, ensuring positive visitor, programmatic, and event experiences across the 9-acre urban park. The role includes leadership and mentoring for four direct reports. Initial responsibilities involve evaluating park needs and staffing with the Director of Facilities, developing and enforcing park SOPs and policies, and creating a support plan for park operations. The Olympic Sculpture Park is a free, year-round facility dedicated to art and landscape, serving as a regional asset. SAM is undergoing a transformation to become a future-focused museum, emphasizing creativity, belonging, and cultural leadership, and is seeking talented individuals to join this journey.

Requirements

  • BA/BS or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Seven years relevant work experience, including four years in a people management capacity
  • Experience with management of public venues
  • Experience planning, organizing and managing proactive, reactive, and preventative maintenance programs in large commercial or institutional settings
  • Familiarity with all aspects of facilities and asset management including security operations, preventative maintenance, operations and capital planning
  • Landscape maintenance management experience
  • Experience in managing service contracts, vendors, and outsourced relationships to ensure contract provisions and standards are met
  • Ability to work with the public professionally and tactfully
  • Ability to build positive working relationships within as well as outside of organization
  • Strong management and supervisory skills; ability to motivate teams and simultaneously manage several projects
  • Successfully assess priorities and work well with deadlines, exceptional time management, problem solving, and analytical skills
  • Willingness to get your hands dirty to support the team and park activities as needed
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Asana, Slack and internet-based research
  • Ability to pass and maintain security background check clearance

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the implementation of Office Services, Environmental Services, and Event Support at the site in coordination with the Facilities team
  • Implement and monitor policies and procedures, setting service and operations standards for park-based activities with a focus on safety, efficiency, financial management, cross-functional collaboration, and consistent superior performance
  • Propose, budget, and supervise park-based construction and maintenance projects to ensure safe, timely, and cost-efficient completion
  • Participate in annual operating and capital budget processes, including five-year projections
  • Monitor monthly expenses for the park and reforecast as appropriate
  • Plan, organize, and communicate staff work schedules and work plans
  • Conduct annual performance dialogues as well as ongoing coaching, training, and opportunities for growth with staff
  • Train, manage, and motivate OSP team to support the care, upkeep, and activities of the park
  • Partner with Chief Engineer to ensure smooth and efficient mechanical, electrical, plumbing, elevator, and fire life safety operations throughout the park
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure all aspects of park are running smoothly and effectively
  • Support art installation and conservation activities in the park
  • Ensure effective communication regarding park activities and usage to staff, volunteers, and vendors
  • Respond to emergency calls in response to weather events and emergency situations
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with Parks Department and SDOT, serving as the primary contact with all city agencies
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with all park stakeholders, including vendors, subcontractors, neighbors, and neighboring park and building management
