About The Position

Provide daily management and oversight of the Olympic Sculpture Park operations and cross-functional park usage oversight. Provide leadership and mentoring to onsite landscape and facilities team. This is a high visibility role that works cooperatively with other SAM departments in the operating of the park and all associated activities including art installation, art conservation, internal programs, and private events. Ensure a consistent and meaningful visitor, programmatic, and event experiences at this 9-acre urban sculpture park. Requirements

  • BA/BS or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Seven years relevant work experience, including four years in a people management capacity
  • Experience with management of public venues
  • Experience planning, organizing and managing proactive, reactive, and preventative maintenance programs in large commercial or institutional settings
  • Familiarity with all aspects of facilities and asset management including security operations, preventative maintenance, operations and capital planning
  • Landscape maintenance management experience
  • Experience in managing service contracts, vendors, and outsourced relationships to ensure contract provisions and standards are met
  • Ability to work with the public professionally and tactfully
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with trustees, executives, management, and staff
  • Ability to build positive working relationships within as well as outside of organization
  • Proactive, strategic, and professional verbal and written communication, with an ability to tailor communications according to audience
  • Strong management and supervisory skills; ability to motivate teams and simultaneously manage several projects
  • Successfully assess priorities and work well with deadlines, exceptional time management, problem solving, and analytical skills
  • Highly organized, adept at self-initiation and working with autonomy
  • Exercise discretion in maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Asana, Slack and internet-based research
  • Ability to pass and maintain security background check clearance

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the park, including operational planning, coordination of activities, and the artistic and horticultural aspects of the park
  • Responsible for the implementation of Office Services, Environmental Services, and Event Support at the site in coordination with the Facilities Operations Manager
  • Implement and monitor policies and procedures, setting service and operations standards for park-based activities with a focus on safety, efficiency, financial management, cross-functional collaboration, and consistent superior performance
  • Propose, budget, and supervise park-based construction and maintenance projects to ensure safe, timely, and cost-efficient completion
  • Schedule and oversee all contracted services
  • Plan, organize, and communicate staff work schedules and work plans
  • Conduct annual performance dialogues as well as ongoing coaching, training, and opportunities for growth with staff
  • Train, manage, and motivate OSP team to support the care, upkeep, and activities of the park
  • Partner with Chief Engineer to ensure smooth and efficient operations in the PACCAR Pavilion
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure all aspects of park are running smoothly and effectively
  • Support art installation and conservation activities in the park
  • Partner with Director of Facilities to create capital project proposals with a minimum five-year horizon
  • Serve as on-site contact for outsourced security staff (directly supervised by Director of Security)
  • In collaboration with Director of Security, coordinate responses to security issues and incidents
  • Ensure effective communication regarding park activities and usage to staff, volunteers, and vendors
  • Maintain operating manual for park and ensure changes are made for staff and vendors
  • Respond to emergency calls in response to weather events and emergency situations
  • Support all park programming by providing necessary support services
  • Ensure that conversions to spaces for events within the pavilion and park are set according to written floor plans and direction from internal event planners
  • Manage and oversee onsite gatherings from corporate institutions as requested
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with Parks Department and SDOT, serving as the primary contact with all city agencies
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with neighbors and neighboring building management
  • Participate in annual operating and capital budget processes, including five-year projections
  • Monitor monthly expenses for the park and reforecast as appropriate
  • Administer budget in assigned area of responsibility
  • Serve as active member of the OSP Committee
  • Engage with other similar institutions to exchange ideas and best practices
  • Contribute to an institutional focus of delivering exceptional, welcoming, and inclusive customer service—creating positive, meaningful experiences for all visitors, every time
  • Participate in institutional learning opportunities to grow our collective understanding and integration of antiracism, cultural competency, and equity values into SAM’s work
