About The Position

The Oil and Gas Plugging Inspector position with the Department of Environmental Protection offers a meaningful way to protect communities and the environment. This ever-evolving role allows you to work outdoors, solve problems, and help manage abandoned and orphaned wells. You will play an important part in keeping well sites safe and compliant. Your work will make a real difference in protecting land, water, and public safety! This role supports the oversight of well plugging operations throughout the Eastern District, ensuring safe and compliant practices in the field.

Requirements

  • Three years of technical experience in well design, drilling, completion, production, plugging, or underground storage operations in the oil or natural gas industry; OR An associate's degree in Petroleum Technology or closely related field, and one year of technical experience in well design, drilling, completion, production, plugging, or underground storage operations in the oil or natural gas industry.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect abandoned or orphaned wells, gather information, and document findings to determine proper plugging needs and estimated costs
  • Guide plugging contractors in the field to ensure compliance with contract requirements and regulations
  • Evaluate permits, plugging procedures, and certificates to ensure they meet regulatory standards
  • Conduct onsite inspections of wells during plugging and other phases to assess safety and regulatory compliance
  • Maintain files, reports, and electronic records related to inspections, investigations, and plugging activities
  • Provide assistance to operators, contractors, and staff regarding plugging methods and safety considerations
