About The Position

OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital is offering an opportunity for a full-time Pediatric CVICU APP. Join a high-performing, collaborative Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) team where your expertise will make a life-saving difference every day. This role is 100% clinically focused, allowing you to concentrate fully on patient care excellence. The role is structured to meet contract-defined work expectations with 173 x 12 hour shifts per year, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Clinical activities include direct Pediatric Critical Care patient management, independent and shared billing, and working with students, trainees, and patients participating in research consistent with their role, scope of practice, and applicable contract and institutional policies.

Requirements

Active Oregon Medical License
Experience caring for pediatric patients in an intensive care setting
Sound clinical judgment under pressure
Clear and compassionate communication with families and multidisciplinary teams
Ability to thrive in environments that require prioritization and decisive action
Comfortable managing multiple high-acuity patients simultaneously
Proficient with electronic medical records and clinical systems
Dependable, professional, and committed to the highest standards of clinical and ethical practice
Successful completion of a Master Degree in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing in the specialty of Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP), or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG ACNP) from an accredited program, a recognized APRN specialty (Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, or Nurse Practitioner), - OR - Successful completion of a Master Degree in Physician Assistant/Associate Studies from an accredited program.
Prior experience in Pediatric Critical Care.
Ability to manage heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing.
Regular and consistent attendance at work.
Current RN and APRN NP licensure with the Oregon Board of Nursing. Current national ANCC Certification in the area of specialization. Current BLS, ACLS or PALS Certification as indicated for the position. DEA Certification. - OR - Current PA licensure with the Oregon Medical Board. Current NCCPA Certification. Current BLS, ACLS or PALS Certification. DEA Certification.

Responsibilities

Deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality care in a fast-paced PICU environment
Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop evidence-based treatment plans
Manage acute and chronic critical illness
Interpret diagnostic studies and manage advanced therapies
Prescribe and adjust medications with thoughtful risk assessment
Provide anticipatory guidance to families and caregivers
Maintain thorough, timely EMR documentation
Assure the safe, efficient, high quality and customer oriented management of patient care to the pediatric critical care population
Complete a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s status
Develop, monitor and revise, as appropriate, an evidence-based treatment plan that addresses diagnoses, patterns of disease, risk factors, and treatment alternatives
Treat many common acute and chronic health problems
Interpret diagnostic tests
Prescribe and manage medications and other therapies
Provide health teaching with an emphasis on anticipatory guidance and risks of complications of therapy
Indirect patient care includes discharge planning, activities supporting direct patient care, including but not limited to EPIC in-basket management/coverage & MyChart messages, closing charts, reviewing results, phone calls, patient care coordination, caseload management, court or legal appearances related to work cases (e.g., subpoenas), care conferences, work group huddles, non-RVU generating patient care and non-billable patient care.
