Role Overview The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) & Workers Compensation Board (WCB) Coordinator provides comprehensive OHS & WCB support and assistance to the HR Generalist, the Home Office, Employee Care Partners (ECPs) across Communities, and Community General Managers. Reporting to the VP of Operations, this role plays a key part in implementing OHS regulations, monitoring workplace safety, conducting safety audits, and managing WCB claims to ensure compliance with Alberta’s OHS legislation, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, strategic objectives, and the Eden Alternative Philosophy. Operating with a high degree of independence, the OHS & WCB Coordinator is a subject matter expert within their portfolio, balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in OHS & WCB legislation and regulation, HR administration, investigations, claims management, return to work programs, and auditing are essential for success.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of government OHS acts, regulations, and codes, ensuring the company policies and procedures align with these standards and the Eden Philosophy.
  • Support and maintain requirements for the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program.
  • Lead regular workplace training and development sessions, workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and job safety analyses to identify risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Investigate all accidents, near-misses, and injuries to determine root causes and implement preventative measures.
  • Manage WCB claims from inception to completion, acting as the liaison between the injured worker, management, and the WCB case worker from incident to completion of the return to work program.
  • Monitor key safety performance indicators and report to management to collaborate on continuous improvement.
  • Work with the Directors of Operations, General Managers, Wellness Managers, and ECPs at community to promote a safety conscious workplace culture that highlights prevention.
  • Support the VP of Operations and senior management with OHS & WCB decision making and budgeting, including recommendations, supporting data, and community feedback.
  • Ensure the company meets all government regulations and industry standards. Advocating for best practices.
  • Maintain and update records in an organized fashion.
  • Provide health and safety training to all employee care partners, ensuring sound knowledge of OHS & WCB, and how to remain safe in the workplace – community and Home Office.
  • Provide strategic advice and leadership regarding COR under the Partners in Injury Reduction program or similar programs that may reduce premiums.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with provincial OHS regulations.
  • Support the Health & Safety Committees at community and Home Office to ensure legislative and corporate requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Develop, coordinate, manage, and maintain total wellbeing programming to reduce health risk, medical costs and encourage healthy lifestyles.
  • Oversee and lead the full-cycle Incident Record Investigation process at all communities.
  • Ensure regular safety audits are conducted, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Support communities during OHS audits.
  • Support the General Managers to manage WCB claims, including reporting, investigation, and return-to-work coordination.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement all aspects of the workplace injury reporting process and ECP Injury reporting and claim management.
  • Develop programs, provide physical demands analysis, and liaise with WCB case workers.
  • Additional duties within scope as assigned.
