About The Position

The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Senior Advisor supports the development and delivery of evidence-based OHS services for SafeCare BC members. Working closely with the OHS Services team, this role develops resources, programs, and initiatives that respond to the evolving needs of the continuing care sector. This role combines technical OHS expertise, program development, and applied analysis to translate legislation, evidence, and sector needs into practical tools, processes, training and resources that can be applied to real-world healthcare environments. The position operates with a high degree of independence in developing resources, interpreting regulatory requirements, and contributing to program direction, while collaborating with internal and external partners. This role is suited to someone comfortable working in complex environments, balancing regulatory requirements, frontline realities, and practical implementation in healthcare settings. It requires a collaborative, adaptable, and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in OHS with a minimum 3–5 years of direct OHS experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of provincial OHS legislation and regulations, with demonstrated ability to apply and implement requirements in practical workplace settings, including developing and operationalizing OHS programs, processes, and controls.
  • Experience implementing OHS program components such as hazard assessments, incident investigations, inspections, training programs, and corrective action processes.
  • Understanding of disability management principles and return to work programming, ideally within healthcare.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word, SharePoint, Planner).
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage competing priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience practically applying OHS legislation in healthcare, continuing care, social services, with an understanding of adult education is considered a strong asset.
  • Specialized experience with emergency preparedness or disability claims management is an asset.
  • Experience with data tools, LMS platforms, and WorkSafeBC dashboards is an asset.
  • Project management skills are an asset (we can support development in this area).
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Champion OHS: Promote and advance OHS initiatives and supportive services for SafeCare BC members.
  • Resource development: Assess, evaluate, develop, design, and continuously improve OHS resources, tools, and guidance materials and sector resources.
  • Data insights and reporting: Analyze OHS data and trends to support decision-making and identify emerging risks in continuing care, including practical control measures for program improvements.
  • Collaborative projects: Coordinate and contribute to projects to ensure effective collaboration and member support.
  • Training and education: Support development and delivery of training, workshops, and learning resources.
  • Regulatory expertise: Maintain knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements, including the Workers Compensation Act (WCA), Occupational Health and Safety Regulation (OHSR), and other applicable BC requirements.
  • Strategic initiatives: Support resource development, outreach, psychological health and safety initiatives, and compliance programs.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Support communication and reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Brand Representation: Uphold SafeCare BC’s values and reputation in all interactions.
  • Flexibility: Support evolving priorities and additional duties as required.
