The Offshore Crane Operator is responsible for operating main and deck cranes within their designed safe working load (SWL), applying the relevant de-rating tables for prevailing weather and sea-state conditions. The position is located offshore in the Gulf of America, formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico. The operator inspects and maintains the crane and related equipment, performs required function tests and pre-use inspections, and ensures operations comply with manufacturer instructions and applicable requirements, including the most current edition of API RP 2D as incorporated by reference under 30 CFR 250.198. The operator participates in lift planning and safety meetings, verifies crane capacity and load conditions, coordinates with the appointed signalman, and conducts lifts safely and in a controlled manner. The role also includes following helicopter-operation precautions, securing the boom in specified conditions, complying with diving simultaneous-operations plans, and inspecting and protecting rigging equipment. Approximately 80–90% of work activities are outdoors. The operator may encounter changing temperatures and hot, cold, humid, wet, dry, dusty, or muddy conditions, as well as paint thinner and paint fumes. Gulf Island does not sponsor work visas; applicants must already be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
