Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Municipal Law Enforcement, this role is responsible for providing Animal Control response and education to the public for animal control calls received as well as enforcing municipal by-laws including but not limited to, Clean Yards, Signs Noise and Nuisance as well as Traffic and Business Licensing.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma in Criminal Justice and Public Policy, Law Enforcement, Criminology, or closely related field.
  • Minimum two (2) years related experience in an enforcement environment demonstrating ability to conduct investigations with respect to animal care, or handling.
  • Valid G class License with no more than three (3) demerit points.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise significant discretion and sensitivity.
  • Superior interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook,)
  • Knowledge of Amanda is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce municipal by-laws and provincial legislation applicable to domestic animals within the Town (exotic and large animals, dogs, cats, etc.)
  • Enforce and provide support to Municipal Law Enforcement Officers with respect to the Clean Yards, Signs, Noise and Nuisance and Traffic.
  • Responsible for the Enforcement of the Business Licensing By-law specific to the Kennel Licensing provisions as well as conducting inspections of Kennels.
  • Prepare investigation reports and ensure electronic data is fully entered into AMANDA.
  • Attend, investigate and document all dog bites under the Animal Control By-Law and report to the Health Department and OPP as required. Investigate and obtain all relevant evidence in order to support the issuance of Dangerous Dog Orders.
