About The Position

This position reports to the Chief Deputy Assessor / Assessor and primarily assists in the preparation of assessment records. It serves as a support role for mapping, appraisal, exemption programs, and personal property staff. The role involves assisting staff with documentation preparation, data entry, and providing customer service to the public via phone and in-person visits. Tasks include verifying and inputting data using existing Assessor's office software, greeting the public, answering phones, directing inquiries, and answering questions about property assessment and ownership. Occasional field visits to properties for information gathering and verification may be required, as well as researching historic records.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to organize work and meet established deadlines.
  • Knowledge of proper phone etiquette and customer service techniques.
  • Skilled in written and oral communication skills.
  • Skilled in the use of standard office equipment (computers, printers, calculators, etc.).
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Skilled in attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Skilled in the proper use of spelling, punctuation, and rules of grammar.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the real estate field.
  • A valid Washington State driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year experience in an Assessor's Office.
  • Background in real estate or land surveying.
  • Knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS).

Responsibilities

  • Assist mapping / appraisal / exemption / personal property staff with preparation of documentation.
  • Perform data entry and provide customer service support to the public through phone and in office visits.
  • Verify and input correct data through existing Assessor's office software systems.
  • Greet the public and answer the telephone, directing questions to the appropriate department.
  • Answer questions regarding property assessment and ownership information.
  • Perform field visits to property to gather and verify information.
  • Research historic records of varying content.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
