About The Position

The Office Specialist - Oncology will be responsible for greeting and interacting with patients, staff, and the public in person and over the telephone. This role involves scheduling various patient appointments, including laboratory, chemotherapy infusion, physician/APP, injections, and chemotherapy education. The specialist will also cross-train in Reception and Registration areas of the Oncology Institute, prepare daily schedules, and handle pre-registration and insurance verification. Additionally, the position requires relaying messages and information, processing and prioritizing tasks in a busy medical practice, and completing special projects. The role emphasizes strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with office staff regarding patient needs, and maintaining the confidentiality of all hospital records, staff, and patient activities. The specialist will also participate in student orientation and clinical experience, staff development and education, and assume personal responsibility for professional development and continuing education.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school education with advanced secretarial/medical training.
  • Minimum two years of secretarial experience in healthcare of customer-oriented service industry.
  • Computer skills are required.
  • Verbal and written skills necessary to effectively communicate with various members of the health care team, other health care facilities, community health related organizations and various external parties.
  • BLS required.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office desirable.

Responsibilities
