Carries out Physician orders including but not limited to assisting with procedures, administering injections, performing phlebotomy, taking patient calls, cleaning and stocking exam rooms, calling in prescriptions, coordinating supply levels, pre-certifying patients medical services, and assisting the physician with all other patient care as requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of South Carolina
  • Current CPR certification
  • Basic first aid knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care to patients in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Carries out Physician orders including but not limited to assisting with procedures, administering injections, performing phlebotomy, taking patient calls, cleaning and stocking exam rooms, calling in prescriptions, coordinating supply levels, pre-certifying patients medical services, and assisting the physician with all other patient care as requested.
  • Maintains a positive attitude.
  • Has contact by phone, correspondence, or personal meetings with persons in other departments or outside the practice; tact is required in these contacts and the employee assumes the responsibility for harmonious relationships.
  • Demonstrates appropriate communication of information to all ages (Infant, Child, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric).
  • Demonstrates responsiveness to all patients and office staff requests and needs.
  • Performs duties assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency, i.e., fire or disaster.
  • Provides communication via telephones (Answer, Transfer), Orders/Messages, and Phone Triage.
  • Handles Physician communication regarding orders and patient issues.
  • Addresses patient concerns and treatment plans.
  • Communicates with staff regarding patient care, referrals, and precertification.
  • Understands and agrees to seek compliance with appropriate health and safety regulatory agencies.
  • Performs scheduling for referrals, appointments, ancillaries, surgeries (Inpatient, Outpatient), and hospital admissions.
  • Manages medical records including documentation, forms, chart maintenance, filing/pulling (Diagnostic Reports, Transcription, Correspondence), image files, faxing, copying, mail in, and mail out.
  • Performs phlebotomy, specimen collection and processing, proficiency testing, and results reporting.
  • Manages medication administration (Intravenously, Subcutaneously, Intramuscular, Intradermal, Orally, Topical, Suppository, Sublingual, Inhalants).
  • Handles storage and handling of medications, and ordering/maintaining levels.
  • Prepares and maintains exam rooms.
  • Conducts patient interviews.
  • Assists patients as needed (Chaperone).
  • Assists with and performs minor procedures.
  • Performs triage (by telephone or in person).
  • Implements Physician Orders.
  • Provides patient education.
  • Reports results.
  • Performs clinical documentation.
  • Operates and maintains equipment, including routine maintenance, ordering of supplies, log sheets, and cleaning.
  • Handles general office equipment (Fax, copier, etc.).
  • Handles patient care equipment (BP, Temperature, Scales, etc.).
  • Operates specialized equipment including X-Ray, Bone Density, Ultrasound, Treadmill, Laboratory Equipment (Processing), Laser Equipment, Defibrillator, Holter Monitors, Cardiac Pacemakers, and others.
  • Participates in in-service/education, including certification/licensure and competency assessments (Department Orientation, Annual Training).
  • Maintains log sheets/audits for samples, pharmacy, Mayday equipment, oxygen, and equipment.
  • Manages instruments including stocking, cleaning/sterilization, knowledge of usage, and storage.
  • Provides support and guidance for clinical policies and procedures.
  • Handles precertification/authorization.
  • Performs coding for E & M / Basic Visits, Office Procedures/ Complex Visits, Surgeries, and Hospital Services.
  • Handles correspondence, statistical reports, accounts payable, and payroll.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
