This position is responsible for providing nursing care to patients in a professional and courteous manner. It involves carrying out Physician orders including assisting with procedures, administering injections, performing phlebotomy, taking patient calls, cleaning and stocking exam rooms, calling in prescriptions, coordinating supply levels, pre-certifying patients medical services, and assisting the physician with all other patient care as requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of South Carolina
  • Current CPR certification
  • Basic first aid knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care to patients in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Carries out Physician orders including assisting with procedures, administering injections, performing phlebotomy, taking patient calls, cleaning and stocking exam rooms, calling in prescriptions, coordinating supply levels, pre-certifying patients medical services, and assisting the physician with all other patient care as requested.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and harmonious relationships with persons in other departments or outside the practice.
  • Demonstrates appropriate communication of information to all ages (Infant, Child, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric).
  • Shows responsiveness to all patients and office staff requests and needs.
  • Performs duties assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency.
  • Handles telephone communications (Answer, Transfer).
  • Manages orders and messages.
  • Performs phone triage.
  • Communicates with Physicians regarding orders and patient issues.
  • Addresses patient concerns and treatment plans.
  • Communicates with staff regarding patient care, referrals, and precertification.
  • Seeks compliance with appropriate health and safety regulatory agencies.
  • Schedules referrals, appointments, ancillaries, surgeries (Inpatient, Outpatient), and hospital admissions.
  • Manages medical records including documentation, forms, chart maintenance, filing/pulling, image files, faxing, copying, and mail.
  • Performs phlebotomy and specimen collection and processing.
  • Reports lab results.
  • Manages medication administration (Intravenously, Subcutaneously, Intramuscular, Intradermal, Orally, Topical, Suppository, Sublingual, Inhalants).
  • Handles medication storage and handling, and ordering/maintaining levels.
  • Prepares and maintains exam rooms.
  • Conducts patient interviews.
  • Assists patients as a chaperone.
  • Assists with and performs minor procedures.
  • Implements Physician Orders.
  • Provides patient education.
  • Performs clinical documentation.
  • Operates and maintains general office equipment (Fax, copier, etc.).
  • Operates and maintains patient care equipment (BP, Temperature, Scales, etc.).
  • Operates and maintains specialized equipment (X-Ray, Bone Density, Ultrasound, Treadmill, Laboratory Equipment, Laser Equipment, Defibrillator, Holter Monitors, Cardiac Pacemakers, etc.).
  • Maintains certification/licensure and competency through department orientation and annual training.
  • Manages log sheets and audits for samples, pharmacy, equipment, etc.
  • Manages instruments including stocking, cleaning/sterilization, knowledge of usage, and storage.
  • Provides support and guidance for clinical policies and procedures.
  • Handles precertification/authorization.
  • Performs coding for E & M / Basic Visits, Office Procedures/ Complex Visits, Surgeries, and Hospital Services.
  • Handles correspondence, statistical reports, accounts payable, and payroll.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
