About The Position

The Chesterfield Public Defender's Office is seeking to fill an Office Manager position that will serve our mission of protecting and defending the rights and dignity of our clients through zealous, compassionate, high-quality legal advocacy. The Office Manager reports to the Chief Public Defender of the Chesterfield office and is employed at-will. Requirements

  • Comprehensive working knowledge of office practices and procedures and office equipment.
  • Professional communication skills.
  • Experience in creating and editing letters, memos, and correspondence.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage an office.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise multiple subordinate staff members.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide direct administrative support.
  • Ability to remain organized.
  • Ability to accurately enter data.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team-driven environment.
  • Ability to lead by a positive example.
  • Ability to learn and accept constructive criticism.
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively in addressing issues and questions.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must successfully complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a public defender or legal office setting.
  • Experience in the Chesterfield County judicial system.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct support to the Public Defender.
  • Supervises support staff.
  • Serves as the point of contact and coordinates the daily activities of the Public Defender's Office.
  • Assists the appellate attorney by developing and maintaining a thorough knowledge of the appellate process.
  • Continually monitors the status of all appellate cases.
  • Assists and supports in the creation and filing of all appellate work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
