About The Position

Alera Group is looking for an Office Leader & Managing Consultant to join our growing team. We are seeking a seasoned Employee Benefits consultant to serve as a trusted advisor to clients while also providing leadership within our consulting practice. This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys translating complex data into strategic recommendations, building long-term client partnerships, mentoring talent, and driving business growth. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent combination of professional experience and education
  • 8+ years of experience managing complex Employee Benefits client relationships
  • Proven success in client retention, strategic benefits consulting, and team leadership
  • Deep expertise in underwriting and funding strategies, including fully insured, level-funded, and self-insured plans
  • Experience advising clients on long-term benefits strategy, financial planning, and market positioning
  • Active Life & Health License in state of residence required
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with strong working knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
  • Experience with BenefitPoint preferred
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into clear, strategic recommendations
  • Comfortable presenting financial analysis, claims trends, and benefit strategies to clients and internal stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship management skills
  • Ability to confidently navigate and de-escalate complex or sensitive client conversations
  • High emotional intelligence with a collaborative, mentorship-oriented leadership style
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities across the full client lifecycle

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary strategic advisor for complex client relationships, ensuring alignment with client goals and a consistently high level of service
  • Lead strategic discussions by translating financial, claims, and market data into clear, actionable recommendations
  • Develop multi-year benefits strategies that thoughtfully balance cost management, compliance requirements, and employee experience
  • Identify opportunities to expand client solutions and collaborate across Alera to deliver additional value
  • Act as a mentor and leader within the consulting practice, helping develop and support the next generation of consultants
  • Lead annual strategic planning and renewal discussions while partnering with internal teams to design and evolve long-term benefits strategies
  • Deliver and present financial analyses, including renewals, budgeting, claims trend analysis, and custom modeling to support client decision-making
  • Provide leadership and oversight to consultants and analysts to ensure strong execution across plan design, funding strategies, vendor negotiations, and client deliverables
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex client or service-related issues, navigating challenges with professionalism and confidence
  • Stay current on industry trends, compliance updates, regulatory changes, and market conditions to proactively guide client strategy
