The successful candidate will join the growing Americas Downstream consulting practice, leading strategic and commercial consulting projects. This role requires creative thinking, analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. The Managing Consultant will frequently engage with senior client teams and collaborate with global, North, and Latin American customers. Projects span strategy development, transaction support, commercial due diligence, project development, government policy advisory, market screening, and pricing/competitiveness analysis within refining, petrochemicals, bio/renewable fuels, oil product storage, transport, and marketing, carbon emissions, and the energy transition. Cross-sector collaboration is a key feature due to the increasing need to address the energy transition.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as business, economics, finance, statistics, or engineering.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in management consulting, investment banking, energy-focused consulting role, or other company strategic/commercial/planning/operating role related to refining, midstream, and oil markets.
  • Strong understanding of the energy value chain (exploration, development, production, transportation, transformation and commercialization), including the implications of the energy transition.
  • Strong understanding of commercial operations, business models and strategies.
  • Track record of quickly becoming knowledgeable and speaking credibly about a wide range of subjects and themes.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with clients or senior stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Top tier master's and/or MBA preferred.
  • Experience managing key project workflows and overall coordination of projects in a Project Manager role is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute complex analysis of commodity markets and project economics, leveraging industry research and expertise.
  • Build and present compelling presentations conveying key messages and recommendations concisely for a senior audience.
  • Act as Project Manager, coordinating and managing consulting projects by setting up a detailed project plan and working with a team to execute milestones.
  • Build and maintain an internal network (across consulting, research, and sales) to deliver the best possible outcomes for clients and Wood Mackenzie.
  • Actively coach teammates, advancing the development of consulting skills and processes across the consulting practice.
  • Support the creation and review of consulting proposals that create strategic insight for clients and value for WoodMac.
  • Bring a thorough and current understanding of refining and oil markets, within the context of the energy transition, and be able to effectively discuss recent events and implications with clients and colleagues.
  • Actively engage in broader Consulting practice activities such as recruiting, training, and operational improvements.
