What You'll Do As our Office Engineer / Field Engineer, you will support construction administration, field observation, and project documentation for active municipal projects. Depending on experience, we anticipate that candidates will spend approximately 50% of their time in the field and 50% of their time in the office while learning the trade of becoming a Civil Engineer focusing on Construction Management at Psomas. Project scope, complexity, size and duration vary depending on assignment. This position includes field-based work requiring the ability and willingness to commute to active project site(s).
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications
- Strong understanding of the construction process and field operations
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work on active construction sites, including uneven terrain, ladders, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions
Nice To Haves
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
- Prior experience in civil infrastructure, public works, or development projects
- Familiarity with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) standards, specifications, and Construction Manual and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) procedures
Responsibilities
- Observe construction activities and support field operations on active transportation and public works projects.
- Prepare and process RFIs, submittments, change orders, progress payments, and other project communications.
- Assist with interpretation of plans and specifications to support field and office construction decisions.
- Maintain project files, as-built documentation, schedules, and support prevailing wage and labor compliance tracking.
- Facilitate communication between clients, contractors, and design teams to support project alignment and progress.
