Under general supervision, assists investigators of the Investigative Services Bureau by obtaining information from victims and witnesses and originating offense reports when necessary and preparing and disseminating completed case packets for investigators. Requirements

  • Knowledge of interview techniques and methods.
  • Skill to interpret and understand Code of Criminal Procedure, city ordinances, city Personnel Policies.
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data from computer system.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate utilizing a two-way radio.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relations with other agencies and the general public.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including, but not limited to personal computer, telephone, copier and fax machine.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to filing, sorting, stooping and twisting of body.
  • Ability to operate a motorized vehicle.
  • A high school education.
  • Two (2) years' experience working in a police department or related field.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Operator's License, Class C.

  • Arlington Police Department General Orders prohibit employees from having tattoos on any part of the hands (below the cuff of a long-sleeve shirt), neck, face, head, eyelids, mouth, and ears, with the following exceptions: 1. Tattoo of one wedding band on the left-hand ring finger. 2. Professional style permanent facial make-up on the eyebrows, eyeline, cheeks, and lips.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain information from victims and witnesses and originate offense reports when necessary.
  • Prepare and disseminate completed case packets for investigators which may include making copies, assembling data and distributing packets to appropriate offices.
  • Research offense reports and assemble data for regular or special reports; ability to maintain and file various documents such as offense reports, intelligence data, cleared cases, etc.
  • Answer questions and disseminate information regarding policies and procedures, general orders, status of cases, etc.; ability to communicate with and assist other sections, departments and agencies.
  • Mail citation to defendants authorized by investigators and mail city prosecutor referral cards to City Attorney Office.
  • Take statements from victims and witnesses utilizing a lap top computer.
  • Research backgrounds and criminal histories of suspects for investigators.
  • Perform related duties as needed or directed.
