About The Position

Newman Elementary School is seeking an energetic, skilled, and warm Office Assistant to join their team. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year secretarial experience
  • Experience and knowledge in a customer service environment
  • Knowledge of school office environments
  • Knowledge and experience with school office technology and equipment
  • Skill in written and oral communications
  • Ability to kindly, calmly and professionally interact with students, parents, teachers, co-workers and visitors in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to organize, prioritize work responsibilities and use time efficiently
  • Skill in tracking and recording student attendance data

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a school environment preferred
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle difficult situations with sensitivity and tact

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Principal, perform secretarial/clerical work.
  • Supervise students during lunch and recess to ensure efficient operations.
  • Assist with recording student attendance in the student information management system.
  • Document and correct absences, late arrivals, dismissals, and other related attendance issues.
  • Monitor and track student attendance.
  • Generate attendance reports as required.
  • Assist with student registration and transfers.
  • Process student discipline letters including typing, filing, and mailing.
  • Oversee work of student volunteers and provide instruction for various work tasks.
  • Perform secretarial work for school principals and assigned administrators.
  • Draft correspondence and documents.
  • Perform routine tasks such as filing, faxing, copying, and data entry.
  • Manage, sort, and distribute mail.
  • Answer phones and respond to questions from parents, students, and other district personnel.
  • Greet visitors and respond to questions and concerns.
  • Provide recess/lunch coverage and other student supervision as assigned.
  • Meet deadlines.
