About The Position

This is a temporary, full-time employment position located in the Kalaupapa Settlement in Kalawao County, on the Island of Molokai. Kalaupapa is a severely isolated community accessible only by a small commuter airplane, or on foot or mule down a steep trail. Ocean access is limited. It is a closed community where only authorized persons may enter, and minors are not allowed. Employees appointed to temporary positions may become civil service members after a probation period, making them eligible for promotion and transfer opportunities. The Settlement is self-contained with various facilities including a care home, grocery store, airport, and post office.

Requirements

  • Legal Authorization to Work: Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident alien, or eligible for unrestricted employment in the U.S.
  • Basic Experience: Six months of work experience demonstrating knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and arithmetic; ability to read and understand oral and written instructions; write simply and directly; and compare words and numbers quickly and accurately.
  • Clerical Experience: One (1) year of work experience performing a variety of clerical tasks, demonstrating knowledge of office practices and procedures, ability to carry out procedures in clerical work systems, and operate various office equipment and technologies.
  • Supervisory Experience and/or Aptitude: Required for some positions, demonstrated through successful completion of assignments with supervisory responsibilities, serving as a group/team leader, completing supervision training, or favorable appraisals indicating supervisory potential.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journey-level clerical work involving a variety of complex clerical assignments.
  • Prioritize work and carry out assignments independently, in accordance with general instructions and established policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and participate in performing moderately complex clerical work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
