About The Position

The Washington State Department of Veteran Affairs (WDVA) is seeking a full-time Office Assistant 3 (HUC) at the historic Washington Soldiers Home in Orting, WA. As a frontline representative of the Washington Soldiers Home, this position helps promote the quality of care we provide for our residents. You will communicate and coordinate with residents, families, healthcare providers, outside agencies, and internal teams to support treatment options, referral appointments, and responsive resident care. This position is eligible for a supplemental basic shift premium for 24/7 Facilities, receiving an additional one dollar ($1.00) per hour. The supplemental basic shift premium will expire on June 29, 2027. The hours of work are Tuesday- Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. This position is not eligible for telework. Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate or have a GED.
  • Must have Two (2) years of clerical experience.
  • Must have experience with multiple phones, copiers, and fax machines.
  • Must have the ability to work proficiently in Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English to facilitate effective performance of job duties.
  • Sufficient written and verbal communication in English to facilitate effective performance of essential functions.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered on a year-for-year basis. Experience must be relevant to the position.

  • Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two (2) years.
  • Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening.
  • Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies.
  • Employee must also be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner during the entire workday.
  • Must maintain regular and reliable attendance and be willing to work as needed.
  • Must successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service, and other required training.
  • Must become familiar and comply with all DVA policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
  • Must sign the confidentiality statement for all employees.
  • Candidates who are offered a job with WDVA must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Answer telephone at the nurse's station and relay messages as needed.
  • Manage nurses' station during resident meal periods.
  • Pick up and deliver items between nurses' station and offices as needed.
  • Print and stock forms at nurses' stations daily and as needed.
  • Print and stock kudos, employee of the month forms and hang flyers as needed.
  • Print MARS, TARS, and NAC Kardex.
  • Update nursing shift notes and schedules for resident baths and vital signs daily.
  • Deliver resident mail and document on log daily.
  • Complete IT work orders as needed.
  • Assist nursing and NACs with PCC as needed.
  • Print and disperse medication admin audit report daily.
  • Complete hospital transfer packets.
  • Notify staff via email of all changes in census beds.
  • Complete missing POC documentation audit report daily.
  • Stock all copiers at the end of each shift.
  • Change toners and order backups as needed.
  • Serve as the secondary backup to staffing coordinator and nursing payroll.
