The Office Assistant 2-Stores/Mail is assigned to the mailroom and will handle and process mail; perform printing jobs, as well as manage the storage, inventory and distribution of supplies and/or equipment. The workload requires the ability to multi-task. Basic computer skills are necessary. The work may involve some heavy lifting, therefore the ability to lift 50 pounds is required. The position also requires a valid driver’s license. This position may train and supervise lower-level staff. This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). This is a promotional title, so all promotional opportunities must be exhausted before a non-state employee can be appointed via NY HELPS. For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications, and any specialized requirements, of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination.
