About The Position

This position reports to the Chapter Lead and is part of the Panelboards chapter, primarily supporting the Develop & Care – OEM Agile Team in Bloomfield, CT. The role involves contributing significantly to successful project results in technology, software, product, and/or solution development, as well as associated Intellectual Property (IP). The engineer will act as the first point of contact in Research and Development for specific product-related issues and maintenance, and will identify, propose, and implement innovative solutions. The work model for the role is Hybrid. The team is a dynamic, collaborative team of engineers where the individual can thrive, learn & grow while contributing to the business by developing safe, quality new products.

Requirements

  • Enjoy solving technical problems and developing products & solutions in the electrification market, such as circuit breakers, panelboards, or switchboards, including for the Data Center (DC) Market.
  • Skilled in understanding and adapting to dynamic customer needs, organizing work for yourself and an extended cross-functional team, and effectively communicating complex information with diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience in mechanical design (including 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation using PTC Creo or similar tools) and engineering analysis.
  • Foster a growth mindset, focusing on continual learning and improvement, and are at ease operating in a dynamic agile environment focused on delivering value to internal & external customers.
  • BS Mechanical Engineering or similar educational background with 5+ years of experience in R&D or a related field.
  • At ease communicating in English.
  • Able to travel domestically & internationally as required.
  • Valid US work authorization and must not require sponsorship for an employment visa by ABB at any time in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Leading projects through a Stage-Gate development process from ideation through launch, driving the achievement of assigned targets (quality, time, scope, cost) and managing risks.
  • Ensuring projects meet customer needs, business standards, and program / product requirements, including functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability, regulatory, and safety requirements.
  • Executing designs with solid modeling software (PTC Creo / Windchill) to create models, assemblies, detailed drawings, and BOMs for designs which may include plastic, stamped metal, and electrically conductive parts and validating designs through appropriate means including performance testing.
  • Maintaining recognized expertise in a specific area by integrating the latest developments in technologies, tools, and methodologies into your work.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of the chapter, including to the improvement or development of new capabilities, skills, technical knowledge, performance, and/or culture.
