About The Position

Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) is responsible for the implementation of the established treatment programs including individual and/or group treatments, utilizing a variety of therapeutic modalities to maximize the patient’s level of function. Supervises and is responsible for the care provided by students and support staff. Provides care in multiple settings, participates in departmental activities, and pursues professional growth.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Occupational Therapy from accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant school.
  • Current license to practice Occupational Therapy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Successful completion of Board Examination of COTA.

Responsibilities

  • Provides group and individual treatment to restore and/or maximize physical, psychosocial, cognitive, and daily living skills for physically, cognitively, developmentally and/or functionally disabled patient populations, including children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, and frail elderly, inpatient or outpatient as assigned.
  • Educates patients in compensatory strategies and life management skills to promote wellness and prevent health decompensation.
  • Educates patients, family and other caregivers in therapy programs and goals.
  • Participates in patient care meetings, collaborates with team members, assists with discharge planning.
  • Assesses effect of treatment rendered and communicates recommendations for program changes to supervising therapist.
