About The Position

Under the direction of the Coordinator of Special Education and Student Behavior, this role assists in providing direct occupational therapy services to children. The position involves participating as a team member by assisting in the assessment of children to determine their current levels of motor development, sensory integration, educational concern, and developmental needs. The Occupational Therapy Assistant will utilize specialized equipment and treatment techniques to facilitate the implementation of individual educational programs related to motor skills development.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school in a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.
  • Possession of a First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate issued by an authorized agency.
  • California registration as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
  • Availability of private transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional instruction in child development, including neurological, physical, and psychological training is recommended.
  • Clinical affiliation in pediatrics is desirable.
  • Experience working with children in an occupational therapy or educational setting is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing direct occupational therapy services to students according to Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals and objectives.
  • Document therapy received and record progress.
  • Maintain related logs and prepare a variety of reports.
  • Collaborate with the Occupational Therapist to assist with the assessment of students to determine the nature and extent of motor disabilities.
  • Assist with data collection and the preparation of assessment reports.
  • Consult with family and staff on the appropriate implementation of educational programs as they relate to the development of motor skills.
  • Recommend and implement use of appropriate materials, activities, and assistive devices designed to facilitate the development and care of children with motor disabilities.
  • Demonstrate educational and developmental strategies and activities to staff and families.
  • Communicate with other therapists, district staff, and professionals serving students.
  • Participate in presentations and in-service offerings as necessary.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
