The Staff Occupational Therapist Assistant assists the Staff Occupational Therapist with resident related activities and direct resident care. This role involves treating residents as directed by the Occupational Therapist, completing timely and accurate documentation, and maintaining a safe treatment environment. The OTA participates in resident care conferences and rehabilitation meetings, and may assist the nursing department with training Restorative Aides. Communication with the supervising occupational therapist is key for updating physicians, nursing staff, the interdisciplinary team, residents, and families on progress, goals, and discharge planning. The OTA also provides in-services on training programs and educates residents, families, and caregivers on treatment goals, home exercise programs, safety techniques, and fall prevention strategies. Additionally, the role involves recommending and facilitating the ordering of necessary durable medical equipment for residents to enhance independence in ADLs. Maintaining confidentiality of resident and company information, reporting equipment issues, and contributing to quality assurance initiatives are also essential functions. The ability to relate positively and effectively with residents, families, staff, and colleagues is crucial.
