About The Position

The Occupational Therapy Assistant or Occupational Therapist conducts occupational assessments, sensory needs assessments, and reassessments, and evaluates patients’ current cognitive, functional, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and vocational or avocational skills. The Occupational Therapy Assistant assists with these assessment activities. The role uses evaluation methods appropriate to each client’s age, education, cultural and ethnic background, medical status, and functional ability. It participates in developing patient treatment plans, including discharge-planning goals, based on assessment information. The position guides patients in selecting individual tasks or projects suited to their needs and goals and encourages participation in activities. It assists and teaches patients individually and in groups, modifying teaching interventions in response to the evaluation process. The role maintains accurate and timely records in accordance with established policies and procedures; implements interventions, including crisis-management procedures, in collaboration with the treatment team; and manages use of the van and transports patients according to established procedures. It participates in committees and Quality Assessment and Improvement activities, attends continuing education specific to psychiatric care for the population being treated, complies with established policies and procedures, and performs other work-related duties as directed or requested.

Requirements

Able to read, write, and communicate in English.
Entry-level degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
Occupational Therapy Assistant role: currently licensed as an Occupational Therapist Assistant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Occupational Therapist role: currently licensed as an Occupational Therapist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Current National Provider Identifier (NPI) registration.
Complete an approved De-escalation Certification Course within 30 days; the course is offered within.
Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days of position start; it is offered within.

Nice To Haves

National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification.

Responsibilities
