The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) assists in providing rehabilitative services to the elderly with mental, physical, emotional, or developmental impairments.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Therapy program
- 1 -2 years of related experience
- Current Occupational Therapy Assistant state license
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Position requires the ability to lift and move objects, weighting up to 35 pounds without assistance
Responsibilities
- Works under the direction of occupational therapists to plan, implement, or administer programs that restore or enhance performance in individuals with functional impairments.
- Monitors patients' performance in therapy activities and provides encouragement.
- Assists in instructing patients and families on home programs, basic living skills, or the care and use of adaptive equipment.
- Observes and records patients' progress, attitudes, and behavior and maintains this information in client records.
- Reports to supervisors on patients' progress, attitudes, and behavior.
- Performs clerical duties.
