About The Position

The Complex Care and Recovery Program is seeking a full-time, permanent Occupational Therapist to work in the Women’s Secure Forensic Unit and the Structured Observation and Treatment Unit. Reporting to the Unit Manager, you will be a member of an interprofessional team, which provides care to forensic female inpatients detained at medium security under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board (ORB). Using a new evidence based intervention, clients are provided with specialized psychiatric and discipline specific assessment along with intensive care using Cognitive Adaptation Training principles. In addition, you will work with inpatients who need a structured setting for treatment and stabilization of aggressive behaviour. As an occupational therapist you will be working toward enabling patients, through assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to transfer to other units and ultimately return to the community. You will be responsible for formulating treatment plans, monitoring the response of patients to therapeutic interventions, participating in the preparation of Ontario Review Board reports and participating in the Unit’s risk management program. You will also be involved in fieldwork supervision of occupational therapy students as well as facilitating interprofessional learning opportunities for students from other disciplines. The Occupational Therapist will provide a range of specialized rehabilitation services for individuals including: initial assessments to determine clients’ skills and needs, to gauge overall rehabilitation readiness and to evaluate mental status; therapeutic and psycho-educational groups; and individual counselling to support client’s rehabilitation goals and needs. Requirements

  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO)
  • Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy (or a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy plus a Master’s degree in OT, Rehab Sciences or a related field)
  • Membership in either the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapy and/or Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy
  • Holder of COTO’s pre-requisite Professional Liability Insurance
  • Eligible for adjunct/status-only appointments with university faculties associated with Occupational Therapy that has affiliation agreements with CAMH
  • Strong group facilitation skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with clients of diverse backgrounds

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years of experience working with individuals who have a serious mental illness
  • Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language
