About The Position

The Occupational Therapist's job goal is to enable the disabled student to use his/her body more adequately and gain optimal benefit from the educational program. This is a nine or ten-month position paid on the Nine or Ten Month Teacher Salary Schedule.

Requirements

Certification as prescribed by the State Department of Education
Licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners for Occupational Therapy or State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners

Responsibilities

To screen and evaluate students for occupational therapy/physical therapy
To serve as a member of the multidisciplinary team when evaluating a student
To provide direct and indirect services to students according to established procedures
To provide consultant service to teachers, other professional personnel, and community Agencies
To review, select, and evaluate materials and activities for Special Education children involved in motor skills
To maintain appropriate records
To participate as a team member in the student’s IEP (Individualized Education Program)
To facilitate communication between the home and the school as it relates to occupational therapy/physical therapy issues that would impact the child’s functioning in the educational setting
To assist in the securing of yearly physician orders for eligible students
To maintain inventory of occupational therapy/physical therapy equipment
To perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor of Special Education
