About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Occupational Therapist to join our team on a Per Diem basis in Mansfield, OH. This role involves providing comprehensive occupational therapy services to residents, focusing on planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating therapy programs. The ideal candidate will collaborate with various departments, maintain treatment records, ensure accurate billing, and supervise therapy assistants. This position requires a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy and a current, unencumbered license to practice in the state. You will play a crucial role in resident care planning, discharge planning, and ensuring the highest standards of therapy services are met.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university.
  • Current, unencumbered license to practice as an Occupational Therapist in this state.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Knowledgeable of occupational therapy procedures.
  • Leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the occupational therapy service.
  • Ability to maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of therapy areas.
  • Willingness to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing therapy services.
  • Ability to communicate information concerning a resident’s condition.
  • Must be constantly alert for resident safety.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 5 pounds and a maximum of 45 pounds, periodically and/or as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Telehealth administration of therapy services.
  • Experience with electronic medical charts and documentation.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, Safety, and Infection Control guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, and evaluate occupational therapy services, programs, and activities in accordance with regulations.
  • Communicate with staff from related departments for therapy planning.
  • Develop and maintain occupational therapy standards and assist in standardizing methods.
  • Review occupational therapy policies, procedures, and manuals annually.
  • Interpret occupational therapy policies and procedures to personnel, residents, and families.
  • Participate in discharge planning and the development and implementation of resident care plans and assessments.
  • Assume responsibility for directing the occupational therapy department in conjunction with the Director of Rehabilitation.
  • Maintain treatment records, resident files, and progress notes.
  • Work with consultants for equipment and custom wheelchairs.
  • Ensure accurate coding and billing for therapy services rendered.
  • Complete all billing and daily notes on the date of service.
  • Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, and charting.
  • Write appropriate orders for Occupational Therapy services in the electronic medical chart.
  • Report questions or concerns to the Director of Rehabilitation.
  • Supervise occupational therapy assistants in accordance with state and board policies, and review treatment/documentation.
  • Administer therapy services via Telehealth as required.
  • Review requests for occupational therapy services and physician orders.
  • Interview residents to determine treatment needs and schedule therapy.
  • Select rehabilitative and therapeutic activities and exercises based on resident history.
  • Participate in resident assessments (MDS) and care plans, including quarterly reviews.
  • Inform residents of therapy procedures and prepare necessary equipment.
  • Assist in transporting residents to and from therapy areas.
  • Demonstrate therapy procedures to residents and staff.
  • Perform occupational therapy in resident's room as necessary.
  • Reassure residents before and during therapy treatment.
  • Prepare residents for treatment and administer therapy according to policies and procedures.
  • Instruct and supervise residents during therapy.
  • Assist residents in ambulatory training as necessary.
  • Recommend modifications to resident's therapy treatment.
  • Ensure therapist notes are informative, descriptive, and follow guidelines.
  • Participate in in-service education and on-the-job training programs.
  • Attend and participate in workshops and seminars to stay informed of changes in the field.
  • Attend and participate in Facility in-service training programs (e.g., OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, Safety, Infection Control).
  • Follow established safety standards for the occupational therapy department.
  • Follow established departmental policies and procedures, including dress code.
  • Comply with Facility's safety precautions.
  • Wear and/or use safety equipment when lifting or moving residents.
  • Assist in identifying departmental procedures involving exposure to blood or body fluids.
  • Follow infection control procedures and universal precautions.
  • Ensure the therapy area is clean and safe, and that necessary equipment and supplies are maintained.
  • Report hazardous conditions or equipment.
  • Wear personal protective clothing when performing services with potential exposure to blood or body fluids.
  • Provide necessary materials and equipment for residents to perform therapy.
  • Report inventory, equipment, or supply needs to supervisor.
  • Utilize department equipment and supplies efficiently to minimize waste.
  • Operate occupational therapy equipment safely.
  • Honor resident's refusal of treatment and report such actions to supervisor.
  • Abide by resident's participation in treatment decisions.
  • Inform residents of consequences of not participating in prescribed therapy and document.
  • Report resident complaints or grievances to the department supervisor.
  • Allow residents to participate in planning and scheduling their treatment.
  • Adhere to all HIPAA requirements.
  • Report medical concerns and changes in condition to the resident's nurse and therapy supervisor.
